The intensity of conflicts around the world is increasing even as efforts to normalize conditions of life and living are made. The world faces a situation of contradictions pulling Government and society to conflict between themselves. This situation has resulted in the breakdown of our commitment to human rights and human developments. This situation aggravates the consciousness of the people making them unable to distinguish what is appropriate from what is necessary. This conflict situation is the cause of the tensions and the lost of opportunities for action against the problems of marginalization.

Save the World believes that any disturbance to the peace is to be found in the twin process of marginalization and urbanization. As long as action to halt marginalization and slow urbanization is not discovered till then the problem of development and peace cannot be resolved satisfactorily. Both marginalization and urbanization are factors for development and understanding.

A talk program on peace & Democracy conducted by Save the World with "Former Prime Minister", K.P. Bhattarai.

Marginalization results due to apathy and incompetence of the development agent, the project and the community. Marginalization is against the mainstream of development, it impoverises the already poor, it weakens the already destitute, it strikes at the soul of the already poor making them seemingly incompetent. Marginalization is the problem of budgetary sanctions which becomes apparent in poor health, poor education and poor food. Marginalization is enforced poverty and deprivation.

Urbanization is the end result of the unbalance of development outlays between the town and the village. In rurban areas life support facilities grows to make living easier, comfortable and secure. In underdeveloped countries this situation gives rise to an exodus of people from the hinterland surrounding the towns. The increasing population of the rurbanized area makes development outlays more heavier and more consistent. Urbanization improves health and education but destroys culture and history. It provides drinking water and electricity but breaks the hereditary community of kith and kin and neighbourhood. Urbanization destroys the link between nature, habitat and human kind. This situation creates the problems which are not historical, not cultural, not human. Urbanization is a development solution that feeds on lack : unemployment, bad health, non production.

Our methods to save the world has to demand friendship and co-operation amongst those people who are developing and have already developed. The organization of this friendship has to be based on the sharing of benefits received from the observation of human rights and peace and international understanding. We require an agency devoted to peace and development. Such a devotion has to grow in work with like minded people around the world and other agencies committed to world peace, development and human rights. Save the World is not a slogan but it is the Tao to promote achievable development here and everywhere. The philosophy behind Save the World is not limited to the materially built part of the globe. It has to do also with wilderness. Save the World is, therefore, an interaction between the built world as well as the wild-world. In this situation repression and militarism is untenable, what is tenable is the willingness to share what we can afford.

The process of development is the practice of participation. In participation the people seek to improve their present situation by dialogue. They interact with the physical as well as the human factors. Interaction is willingness to share the acievements of development. This is an ongoing process which requires sensitivity among the actors.

  • Seek opportunities for human rights action and peace activities.
  • Seek international understanding for World Peace.
  • Promote participatory support to sustainable development
  • Encourage programs of environmental awareness and conservation.
